care

100% natural fiber maintenance
i use 100% natural fibers — which means some amount of shedding and pilling is to be expected with all of our yarns. please read more specifics in each yarn overview below.
i will use unmercerized—and minimally processed—organic cotton yarn for its natural softness and elasticity. this can make it prone to shedding. see care tips below.
if you’re experiencing pilling on your wool, i suggest carefully trimming the fuzz balls every once in a while.
Recommended care by fiber type
-
wools
washing: hand wash cold.
drying: lay flat to dry. do not exposing wool to heat (hot water, iron) or agitation (machine washing, wringing); it will cause felting.
dry cleaning: some merino wool items can be dry cleaned to help mitigate shedding. check product care details.
-
unmercerized cottons
washing: handwash or gentle machine wash cold with a mild soap. cold water helps to minimize wear and reduce shrinkage.
drying: do not agitate or twist. shape and dry flat on a towel, pressing before fully dry. a tumble dry low is okay; it can help minimize shedding that can occur—monitor the first time.

mercerized cottons
washing: handwash or gentle machine wash cold with a mild soap. wash with like colors to prevent dye transfer or damage from other fabrics.
drying: lay flat to dry or roll in a towel to remove excess moisture before air drying. avoid heat in a dryer; it can undo the effects of mercerization.
unmercerized vs mercerized cotton
unmercerized cotton is preferred over mercerized cotton for applications where higher absorbency, a natural, softer feel, and a more matte appearance are desired.
mercerized cotton is chosen for its enhanced strength, reduced shrinkage, better dye absorption, and lustrous sheen.
